DANBURY’S FIRST A.C.T.I.O.N. RESULTS OF ‘09

During the months of January and February, UNIT activity accounted for 150 issues.  Although challenged by multiple snow storms, the UNIT was able to identify 35 properties littered with garbage and debris. As a result, property owners were notified and were required to remove the debris. The UNIT also assisted the Highway Department by helping to remove 10 abandoned vehicles from the streets that were preventing them from effectively removing the snow.

Additionally, over 60 vehicle owners were cited for parking on the front lawn and were required to move their vehicles. The UNIT also responded to over 20 concerns of unsafe living conditions. This included inspecting apartments that may be overcrowded, or ensuring that residents are sleeping in rooms that are considered safe and an emergency exit is required.

Mayor Mark Boughton said, “Maintaining the quality of life for the residents of Danbury is my highest priority, and the UNIT continues to do so by being pro-active within the community, identifying issues and working with the applicable property owners to resolve them.”

The team continues to perform ACTION (Active Commitment Toward Improving Our Neighborhoods), including in the evenings or weekends.  Additionally, the Office of Neighborhood Assistance will soon be conducting neighborhood meetings to ensure that the concerns of the residents are being addressed, as well as, educating the public on the laws and regulations of our city, and preserving our community’s quality of life.

The UNIT appreciates the participation of the community and continues to encourage Danbury’s residents to report any concerns in their neighborhood by utilizing the City Line 311 system. Residents of Danbury can simply dial 311 from their home phones, or 203-744-4311 from out of town or cell phones. Additionally, residents can log on to the City’s webpage and click on the City Line 311 link to register their complaint at their convenience. By visiting the Neighborhood Assistance Department on the City’s website, residents will also be able to view the UNIT’s monthly activity.
