The City of Danbury-Welfare Division seeks to provide the community and its residents with access to municipal and community social services in an expeditious, cost effective and comprehensive manner. The division’s efforts at this time are focused on improving access to housing and emergency shelter; improving access to medical care and coverage and improving social conditions for residents via collaboration and advocacy at the local, state and federal level by identifying needs and working to create systems of access that are inclusive of all residents in need.

Rental Assistance Program
Housing caseworker assists Danbury residents in need of maintaining or acquiring housing.
Services include:

Emergency Shelter
Emergency Shelter services for homeless adults without children. Thirty (30) days maximum stay. Admission criteria must be met.

Day Center
Day Center provides case management for homeless adults in Danbury.

- Screening for entitlement eligibility
- Advocacy

- Monthly food drives providing local shelters and food banks with food supplies
- Dress for Success provides children with clothing for school
- Thanksgiving food drive provides area families in need with a full dinner for the holidays
- Christmas drive provides gifts and food for area families in need

Accomplishments
An average of 377 homeless individuals per month uses our Day Center. The Emergency Shelter services an average of 457 homeless individuals per month. We also assist an average of 5 homeless individuals per month in finding transitional or permanent housing. We connected an average of 22 homeless individuals to substance abuse treatment each month. We also connected an average of 17 homeless individuals to mental health treatment each month. An average of 14 homeless individuals was assisted in successfully securing employment each month. An average of 15 homeless individuals was assisted in searching for housing each month.
An average of 145 individuals received assistance in completing Indigent Drug Program applications each month. An average of 45 individuals received assistance in completing applications through AmeriCares each month. An average of 27 individuals received assistance in completing applications through Wellness on Wheels each month.
Our monthly food drives average 381 lbs. of food donated to local food bank and pantries each month.
Our housing caseworker averages 23 new requests for service each month, which includes housing retention, advocacy, application assistance, housing searches and court appearances.
