Danbury Housing Partnership

Danbury Housing Partnership

The mission of the Danbury Citizen Corps is to harness the power of every individual through education, training, and volunteer service to make communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to the threats of terrorism, crime, public health issues, and disasters of all kinds.

The Danbury Citizen Corps mission will be accomplished through a local, state and national network which will tailor activities to the community and build on community strengths to develop and implement a local strategy to have every Danbury citizen participate through:

Personal responsibility: Developing a household preparedness plan and disaster supplies kits, observing home health and safety practices, implementing disaster mitigation measures, and participating in crime prevention and reporting.

Training:
Taking classes in emergency preparedness, response capabilities, first aid, CPR, fire suppression, and search and rescue procedures.

Volunteer service:
Engaging individuals in volunteer activities that support first responders, disaster relief groups, and community safety organizations. Everyone can do something to support local law enforcement, fire, emergency medical services, community public health efforts, and the four stages of emergency management: prevention, mitigation, response and recovery efforts.

The Danbury Citizen Corps Council will also promote and strengthen the Citizen Corps programs, such as Volunteers in Police Service programs, CERT teams, Medical Reserve Corps units, and Neighborhood Watch groups; provide opportunities for special skills and interests; develop targeted outreach for special needs groups; organize special projects and community events; encourage cooperation and collaboration among community leaders; and capture smart practices and report accomplishments.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help.

Our local CERT goal is to be visible in the community while doing various projects and services for the community. We are expanding our groups as well as targeting problems in community and housing areas. All CERT activities are open to CERT members as well as participation by anyone in the community.
