About Us:

The Assessor is responsible for the assessment of approximately 29,000 Real Estate parcels, 60,000 Motor Vehicles, and 3,500 Personal Property accounts. Collectively these accounts make up the City’s Grand List. The integrity of the City’s Grand List is important to every taxpayer because it is the basis for a fair and equitable distribution of the Tax Levy. Once the Grand List is finalized, the Tax Collector then applies the mill rate to calculate the taxpayer’s property tax bill.

This department answers to the State of Connecticut, and the City of Danbury. It is committed to accurately serving and representing every resident within the City. The Assessor’s main objective is to assist the public to receive any exemptions and benefits they are entitled to and to assist taxpayers in understanding the assessments on their properties.

Many professionals need information from our office, such as map numbers, deed information, and current assessments to conduct their business. These professionals would include appraisers, surveyors, and title searchers.

Our Accomplishments:

This office also manages several tax relief programs that are available to our seniors, veterans, and 100% disabled persons to help reduce their property tax.

Every year the Assessor’s Office takes special care to assist taxpayers with multiple tax credits. We encourage taxpayers to pay special attention to the filing period for our senior and totally disabled tax credit programs. The filing period for these programs takes place from February 1st through May 15th each year. The filing period for our veteran programs is from February 1st through October 1st each year.

The Assessor’s Office will also make house calls for any senior who cannot get to City Hall.

Revaluations are state mandated and to be conducted every five years. The City completed a revaluation for the October 1, 2007 Grand List. This information is available online at www.visionappraisal.com. If taxpayers have any questions on their assessments, please call or stop in our office.
