The Risk Management Division protects the City’s assets. Risk Management’s responsibilities have grown to include more than just administering and providing the most affordable comprehensive insurance coverage for claims associated with general liability, health, life, dental, disability and workers compensation, Risk Management also promotes safety and health programs for City Employees which helps minimize injury claims and ensure public safety by regularly conducting safety inspections of the City’s facilities and playgrounds.
The Risk Management Division administers the Health (and prescription), Dental, Vision, Workers’ Compensation Insurance plans for all the active and retired employees of the City and the Property and Liability Insurances. Each year, the department coordinates safety program and inspects the City’s playgrounds and buildings to ensure public safety.
Our Accomplishments:
All insurance plans are reviewed each year for quality control, cost effectiveness and savings opportunities. The City recaptured over $150,000 in prescription expenses in 2008 without impacting retiree benefits by participating in the Medicare D program. The Division also persistently pursues claims for damages to City property resulting in recovering over $100,000 last fiscal year. The City’s insurance carrier recently announced that they have awarded their Risk Control Achievement Award to the City of Danbury for substantial impact on loss cost factors. This recognition was mainly due to the collaborative work between Risk Management and the Fire Department’s Safety Committee.
