Notice of Tree Warden Decision Pursuant to Connecticut General Statues 23-59, Forestry Division of the Public Works Department
About us:
The Forestry Division consists of 4 people including the Lead Tree Operator, who is also our Tree Warden, a Tree Worker-Climber, a Tree Worker-Bucket Operator, and a Truck Driver. The work performed by the Forestry Division includes the maintenance of the city’s landscapes, and trees and shrub removal and trimming for the purpose of providing a safe environment at all our parks, playgrounds, schools, public buildings, and all our right of ways.
The division takes great pride in the appearance of Main Street and the Rose Garden for the annual Memorial Day Parade, and works hard to make the residents and visitors to the city proud themselves. In the winter, this division stays active as it is called into action to assist the Highway Division with snow plowing and sanding.
Our accomplishments:
During the winter months the Forestry Division performed snow plowing and sanding downtown to assist the Highway and Parks Maintenance Divisions. We are also the key division responsible for clearing the crosswalks in the downtown area during snow storms.
The division does pruning and tree removal at locations throughout the city and we respond to many tree calls due to storm damage. The Forestry Division performed tree removal on Backus Avenue for the Backus Avenue Bridge replacement and at Broadview Middle School for an oil spill clean-up. Pruning of the trees on Main Street/ also took place as well as a large tree removal and pruning on Joe’s Hill Road.
Once again, Danbury was named Tree City USA for the 21st year. Our planting program included landscaping for the new multi-use field in Rogers Park, plus major replanting of cherry trees on the island on Main Street. To celebrate Arbor Day, we planted trees at Kenosia Park and two trees on Lions Way with the Danbury Lion’s Club. With the help of Bartlett Tree, we once again participated in the Arbor Day program at Tarrywile Park, pruning and removing dead trees.
In May, the Forestry Division once again presented one of the most popular displays at the Third Annual Public Works Awareness and Employee Recognition Day open house. The students really enjoyed looking at the trucks and equipment and the tree climbing demonstration.
The division takes great pride in showcasing our work for the residents and visitors to the city especially on Main Street and at the Rose Garden for the Memorial Day Parade.
