About us:
The Department of Emergency Management for the City of Danbury continuously receives support and updates for our Emergency Operations Plan from the State of Connecticut Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security.
Events throughout the last decade have redefined emergency response
needs and planning at all levels of government.
Being proactive in our approach and response to potential emergency
events, both natural and manmade, is our priority. Our primary mission
continues to be the development of plans, protocols and procedures that assure
the safety of our citizens. The department, with input from local, state, and
national agencies, has made significant strides in preparedness, and has
created a strong foundation for emergency management in our community
Our accomplishments:
The Federal Emergency Management Agency Grant for the Pre-Disaster Hazard Mitigation study has been completed and sent to FEMA, the State of Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, as well as the city’s Engineering and Planning Departments for review and approval. Once these departments have completed their review and approval of the study, the document will be sent to the Mayor and City Council for final approval. The completion of this study will enable the City of Danbury to take advantage of future federal and state grants as they become available, to help us mitigate the effects of flash flooding, hurricanes and other natural disasters.
We continue to enlarge the Video Conferencing program for Region 5 through the inclusion of laptops to enable public safety departments to communicate from the field back to the Emergency Operations Center regarding the need for personnel and equipment to handle the situation.
We have also seen the completion of the $120,000 I-84 Diversion Plan Study that is currently in the process of being implemented throughout the Region 5 area.
On behalf of our residents we would like to express our thanks to Housatonic Area Regional Transit (HART) and the Danbury War Memorial staff for their continued support of our citizens in their time of need, including transportation as well as shelter from weather threats and other emergencies.
