About us:

The Community Medicine Division of our department provides information and guidance for physicians and agencies on the prevention of communicable diseases.

Our accomplishments:

The Community Medicine Division continues to provide direct patient care to individuals diagnosed with Mycobacterium Tuberculosis (TB). Our goal is for all individuals to complete treatment thus reducing the reservoir of disease in the community.  The division’s Public Health Nurse, in collaboration with Danbury School Nurses, developed the “Partnership in Action-To Achieve the Goal”.  Through Partnership in Action-To Achieve the Goal, students in school who are diagnosed with Latent TB Infection (LTBI) have their TB medicines administered by their school nurse. Danbury was the first public health clinic to initiate this program which prompted other public health clinics in the state to also do so.  In addition, our local Public Health TB clinic also worked in collaboration with the Danbury Visiting Nurses Association to provide directly observed therapy of anti-Tuberculin medicine to individuals. These two programs are an efficient, cost effective strategy for reducing the reservoir of future TB cases.

An outreach program for the testing and education of STDs is provided in collaboration with the Aids Project for Greater Danbury.  In conjunction with this program the Sexually Transmitted Disease Clinic continues to provide medical services for the screening, treatment and prevention of STDs.
