American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 Stimulus Grant
Danbury Airport Task Force Releases Final Report
About Us:
The Danbury Municipal Airport sits on approximately 250 acres of property. The Aviation Commission, under the leadership of Chairman John Ashkar, along with Commissioners Baker, Opperman, Zilinek and Frizzell oversee the standards for lease and/or use of the municipal airport, and the current and future planning of the field. The Commission also issues permits and works closely with the Airport Administrator.
Our Accomplishments:
We have completed the Rehabilitation of Taxiway “B” and “C” grant that we received this past year from the Federal Aviation Administration. This project completed older sections of the taxiway system here at the airport that was done almost 50 year ago. We still have to rehabilitate the rest of Taxiway “B” which is approximately 2,000 feet in length and once that is completed all of the taxiways of the 1950 era will be finished.
The airport has applied for a $600,000.00 Federal Aviation Administration grant to rehabilitate some of the Hazard Beacon sites and the rotating beacon that surround the airport. The last time the hazard beacons were rehabilitated was in 1987 and the support poles were not included in this program. Some of the wooden Telephone poles are now over 45 years old and need replacement. The motor that drives the rotating beacon is no longer manufactured and the company has long since closed, parts for the motor are almost no longer in existence.
