American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 Stimulus Grant
About Us:
The Danbury Municipal Airport sits on approximately 250 acres of property and has received approximately $19,000,000.00 of capital monies since 1982 from the Federal Aviation Administration. The Aviation Commission, under the leadership of Chairman John Ashkar, along with Commissioners Baker, Opperman, Zilinek and Frizzell oversee the minimum standards for lease and or use of the Danbury Municipal Airport, and the current and future planning of the field. The Commission also negotiates leases, issues permits and works closely with the Airport Administrator.
Our Accomplishments:
During the summer of 2008, through an FAA Grant, we were able to cut down the trees that were interfering with the safety to the approach to runway 080. After completing the tree removal project we began other safety enhancements including the removal of all structures on the Grenier property on Miry Brook Road, and the installation of the last beacon as required by the FAA.
The airport has applied for and received an FAA grant to rehabilitate the runway intersection. The last time the runway intersection was reconstructed was in October 1986 and the project took 30 days to complete. This time depending on the strength of the sub base it should only take 2 and half days to complete. The airport has also applied for and received notification that an award of $350,000.00 in Federal Stimulus monies will be provided to conduct a phase 2 obstruction analysis for the airport.
