Description
The Stanley L. Richter Memorial Park is one of the finest leisure facilities in the Connecticut. It forms a unique combination of both arts and recreational activities, attracting nearly 50,000 visitors annually. The championship 18 hole golf course sets the stage for the park which also features tennis courts and hiking trails, and cross country ski trails, and sledding in the winter. Throughout the year the Arts Association is host to outdoor musicals, concerts, art shows and even an antiques road show.
Richter Park Golf Course encompasses over 180 acres of gentle rolling terrain with West Lake Reservoir bordering 7 Holes on the front and Boggs Pond bordering the signature 12th hole on the back. Water can come into play on this scenic layout on 14 out of 18 holes and the greens are well guarded by one of the 50 newly renovated bunkers surrounding the course. There are 4 sets of tees to choose from that will challenge all golfers regardless of skill. This Edward Ryder designed course is well matured and is bordered by large trees that make for a special treat in the fall with all the color against the backdrop of the hills. Richter Park Golf Course is also home to the Richter Park Men’s and Ladies’ Clubs, social organizations that provide a competitive golf format for those who share an appreciation for the game. Membership in these organizations is open to Danbury residents and non-residents alike and includes the creation and maintenance of a USGA recognized handicap.
Richter Park is also known for its art, music and theater productions which draw from both Connecticut and New York. The Stanley L. Richter Association for the Arts hosts many events, ranging from the Annual Juried Art Show where area artists exhibit their works, to the Musicals at Richter, poised to celebrate its 25th season in 2009 as Fairfield County’s longest running outdoor theater.
Recently rated by Zagat as one of American's Top Italian Restaurants,
Cafe on the Green Restaurant overlooks the 18th green and 10th fairway of the golf course. The restaurant provides Northern Italian cuisine and a menu that offers a full selection of appetizers, entrees and desserts along with an extensive wine list. The restaurant is open 12 months for lunch, dinner and private parties.
Richter Park is governed by a nine member autonomous board which sets policy for the management of Richter Park. Richter Park’s vision is to provide an outstanding recreational venue with a friendly, courteous and knowledgeable staff for the personal enrichment of both the residents of Danbury and out of town visitors.

Successes

As one of the most recognized golf courses in Connecticut, Richter Park Golf Course has been rated numerous times as one of the top courses in the nation. Recognized with a four star rating by Golf Digest in 2008 as one of America's “Best Places to Play,” and voted as “New England’s Top 20 Public Access Course” by T&L Golf Magazine, and “CT Best Public Par 3” by Public Links Magazine, golfers travel from all over the state to play at Richter.
Every year Richter Park draws golfers from all over to participate in the Fran McCarthy Junior Tournament and the famed Danbury Amateur. In 2008, Richter Park Golf Course hosted the American Junior Golf Association for its second consecutive season and this national tour has requested to return again in 2009!
