There are a few important rules for collecting and disposing of your fall leaves that you must know before cleaning up your yard. According to City of Danbury’s Code of Ordinance 17-9, leaves can NOT be blown into city streets as they may obstruct water flow.
Sec. 17-9. Bridges over gutters; obstructing water flow.
No person shall erect or construct any bridge over any gutter in any of the streets of the city, or fill up any canal, drain, ditch or gutter made by authority, or obstruct the course of any run of water in any street or public square without permission from the director of engineering.
In an attempt to help our residents clean up their properties and to dispose of their leaves free of charge, the city runs a Fall Leaf Pick-Up program for six weeks beginning on October 19th through November 27th.
ONLY LEAVES bagged in PAPER LEAF BAGS with NO TAPE should be left at curbside in front of residences for the city’s Highway Department to pick-up.
NO TAPE OF ANY KIND
NO PLASTIC BAGS
NO YARD DEBRIS, GRASS, ROCKS, DIRT, GARBAGE
NO BRUSH, STUMPS, BRANCHES OR OTHER TREE DEBRIS
The Leaf Pickup Program is divided by I-84; Section A is south of I-84 (zip code 06810) and Section B is north of I-84 (zip code 06811). Section A will be picked up the week of October 19th through October 23rd and then move to Section B the next week. This cycle will be repeated through November 27th.
